+Specifically with gluetun you must add an environment variable called FIREWALL_INPUT_PORTS. The value is a comma separated list of ports which are in the same pod as the vpn sidecar. I.e if you have nginx exposing port 80 add port 80 to FIREWALL_INPUT_PORTS.
